Summer is still in full swing here in Maine, and the humidity has reached its peak in August. The heat is intense, the humidity is thick, the greenery is lush, and the wild animal families are abundant. Even in the heat, I turn to my favorite beverage: tea.

I picked up a few yummy fig bars and enjoyed them out on the deck with some English Breakfast tea. I wanted to use the beautiful pot, plate, creamer, and sugar bowl I inherited from my late sister-in-law. The pattern is called “Bridesmaid” from Royal Albert and although I haven’t found the right-priced teacup and saucer from that pattern, I AM actively looking.

The teacup I DID select certainly looks like it could be the same pattern. Lovely roses and gold edging with a delicate handle.

Much to my dismay, as I was setting up the table, I discovered that the deer are now eating the buds from my two potted hydrangea bushes on the deck. Deer never bothered them in the past, so this is depressing. There are a few blooms, but certainly not the number there should be…just bare stubs where buds USED to be. I collected (rescued) one bloom for my little seashell bud vase on the table.

Everything is very lush outside. We’ve had just enough rain to keep things relatively green and overgrown. Roadsides are filled to the brim with wildflowers and harvests are beginning for tomatoes and fresh corn. The best of summer is right now with warmer water in the lakes and ocean and fewer bugs. ENJOY!
