English Scones

I love scones, but I don’t always love making them. Cutting the cold butter into the dry ingredients always presents me with discomfort in my arms and hands. I’ve tried different ways to do this process and they never seem to come out the same way twice. I know many people use large food processors as well.

That being said, whenever I see scones offered, I’m always temped to try them. I’ve tried ordering them online before and have had hit and miss results, but I have to say the Plain English Scones from Jolly Posh Foods are VERY good.

English scones are usually slightly different than American scones in that they’re less sweet and less fluffy. American scones are more pastry or dessert. Not that there is anything wrong with that!

These scones were buttery and lighter than I was expecting but still with a good chew and held up well under butter and jam. I mean…what is a scone anyway if not just a vessel to hold the butter and jam, right?

I was also very impressed with how they were packaged and shipped from Chicago. I picked up some sausage rolls, pork bangers, and a wee sticky toffee pudding and they were all frozen upon arrival. Well done!

I enjoyed a pot of Earl Grey tea from Taylors of Harrogate and homemade orange marmalade that was gifted to me. It was all so yummy and wicked easy. Just heat up the scones for 10 minutes and it’s ALMOST like I baked them myself. Yes, it’s more expensive, but it was certainly less frustrating for me.
